But the fine print matters: the top savings require an eligible trade-in, a premium qualifying plan such as Experience Beyond or Go5G Next, and the discount is paid through 24 monthly bill credits rather than an instant price cut. Taxes also typically apply, and if you leave early, the remaining phone balance can come due while the bill credits stop. That means the real question is total cost. The Fold8 starts around $1,899 and the Ultra about $2,099, so the promotion can wipe out most or all of the hardware price. But premium unlimited plans are expensive. If you upgrade to a pricier plan mainly to get the phone deal, the monthly service cost can eat into the savings over two years. It is most attractive for existing T-Mobile customers already on, or planning to keep, one of those premium plans and who have a high-value trade-in. For them, getting a near-$1,900 foldable for little or no net device cost is strong value. It is much less compelling for shoppers who would need to switch carriers, add a new line they do not need, or move to a costlier plan just to qualify. So the discount is not a trap by itself, but it becomes one if the plan requirements raise your total spending.
