Meta Firmware Reveals Next Headset Visuals as Connect 2026 Nears

September firmware assets in Meta’s HorizonOS Prescription Lens package show the clearest images yet of its next headset, including how prescription inserts attach, detach and are scanned by QR code.
The updated package appears to support testing for the long-rumored Phoenix device, which multiple reports have described as a premium ultralight headset with an open periphery and a tethered compute puck.
The visuals depict a slim glasses-like design with nose pads instead of a face interface, sensors along the sides and undersides of the temples, and a cable linking the left temple to the external puck.
Meta’s August release of the free Prescription Lens app had already raised questions because it was delivered as a ZIP-like system package rather than a standard APK and barely appeared in users’ app libraries.
Meta Connect 2026 is now the key watchpoint, with one scheduled session on controller-free interaction aligning with Phoenix’s reported focus on eye and hand input.
