Two former pros — Dae’quan Wright and Zxavian Harris — had been cleared by an injunction to play this season after LSU challenged the SEC and Big Ten bans in court.
Sept. 10 had been floated as the date for a vote by the SEC’s other 15 schools to expel LSU, but the Tigers appeared to retreat by filling their final roster spots with non-pro players.
Jeff Landry, after initially backing LSU, dismissed the expulsion threat as “Ridiculous” and said, “Can we just play football?” as the dispute widened beyond Baton Rouge.
Sept. 26 now looms as the next flashpoint: LSU and Texas A&M meet in Baton Rouge, with no former NFL players expected on the field but tensions still high.
