$799 Apple Watch Ultra buyer Richard Goetz sued Apple after learning his 2022 model will not get watchOS 27 this fall.
watchOS 27 is limited to Series 9, Ultra 2, SE 3 and newer models, ending updates for devices released through 2022 even though watchOS 26 still supported watches back to Series 6.
The suit argues Apple effectively controls an Apple Watch's usable lifespan through software support and says Goetz would not have bought the Ultra if Apple had disclosed a roughly three-year update window.
Apple does not publicly guarantee Apple Watch support periods, unlike Samsung and Google, leaving buyers without a clear timeline for when updates will end.
