Summary
Xiaomi said its first in-house smart-driving chip, the Xring D100, has completed validation and is slated for commercial use in 2027, marking its move deeper into core automotive computing.
Built on a 3-nm process, the D100 carries a 20-core CPU, 16-core NPU and 160 GB unified memory, and Xiaomi says it can run AI models with up to 200 billion parameters locally.
Xiaomi has not disclosed the chip's TOPS, foundry, first vehicle model or installation timetable; before vehicle rollout, it has deployed the D100 in an AI Cube prototype desktop terminal.
The chip is meant to cut costs and improve hardware-software integration as Xiaomi's EVs now mainly use Nvidia Thor, while rivals including Nio, Li Auto, Xpeng and BYD already deploy in-house driving chips.
More than 21 billion yuan in chip investment and a nearly 3,000-person team underscore the bet, but Xiaomi still must scale the D100 enough to justify spending as its EV and AI businesses lost 2.6 billion yuan in Q2.
