iPhone 18 Pro Max Rumored to Add f/1.4 Variable Aperture and 6x Zoom

Apple’s larger flagship is rumored to reserve two camera upgrades for itself: a variable aperture system spanning f/1.4 to f/2.8 and a 6x optical zoom lens.
Those features reportedly require more internal room—especially the aperture mechanism and five-fold prism zoom setup—making them unlikely to reach the smaller iPhone 18 Pro.
The trade-off is expected to be a thicker, heavier Pro Max with a larger camera bump, while the standard Pro stays slimmer but may lean on camera hardware carried over from the iPhone 17 Pro line.
That split would mark a sharper break from Apple’s usual near-parity between Pro models, positioning the Pro Max more clearly for photography-focused buyers.
If the leaks hold, Apple could exploit an opening in premium phones as Samsung is said to have dropped variable aperture on the Galaxy S27 Ultra, though Apple has not confirmed any iPhone 18 details.
