Q: Why might Samsung's cheaper Galaxy Z Fold8 actually beat the pricey Ultra model in multitasking?

Samsung’s cheaper Galaxy Z Fold8 may beat the Fold8 Ultra in multitasking because its screen shape appears better suited to Samsung’s new split-screen tools. Reports on One UI 9 say both phones support improved multi-window features, including a new 90:10 three-app layout. But hands-on testing indicates the standard Fold8’s shorter, wider inner display can also show three apps side by side in vertical columns, while the Ultra’s taller, narrower display is more limited to one large app next to two stacked panels. In practice, that can make the standard Fold8 more usable for keeping several apps visible at once. That advantage comes from geometry, not raw power. Both models are reported to use the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip, so the difference is less about speed and more about how much usable width each app gets. A wider 4:3-style inner screen gives the standard Fold8 more room for readable three-pane layouts, which matters more for multitasking than simply having a larger diagonal display. The standard Fold8 may also be more comfortable for long multitasking sessions because it is lighter, at about 201 grams, versus roughly 215 grams for the Ultra. That can matter when the phone is open for extended work. The Ultra still appears stronger in other areas, especially cameras, battery and a larger overall workspace. But if the priority is practical split-screen flexibility, current reporting suggests the less expensive Fold8 could be the better multitasking buy.
