Freedom Inc. said it had bailed out 32 protesters by 4:45 p.m. Tuesday and was trying to free 50 after arrests tied to demonstrations in Madison.
Police said the group took over the intersections of Williamson and Baldwin streets and later East Washington Avenue and Baldwin, emptied dumpsters and trash cans, and set five fires in the streets.
Madison Fire Department said three fires were set on Williamson Street and two on Baldwin Street, involving metal dumpsters and a city-issued trash can.
Protest supporters gathering outside jail said the arrests were wrongful and linked the protest to Corey Ruiz's death, describing it as a response to over-policing and surveillance of people of color.
The arrests follow days of unrest after police cleared a Corey Ruiz memorial encampment, with 22 protesters arrested Wednesday and six more detained earlier this week.
