Police retook the Williamson and Baldwin streets area by Wednesday morning after protesters held the intersection for hours overnight and tried to rebuild a barricade.
Five fires were set in dumpsters and a city trash can on Williamson and Baldwin streets, and protesters also emptied dumpsters and trash cans into the roadway, according to police and fire officials.
Six people were arrested after 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, bringing the total since Tuesday morning to 22; police said officers used no munitions or force to reclaim the intersection after midnight.
The unrest followed Tuesday's clearing of an encampment at the memorial site where Corey Ruiz was shot and killed by a police officer, after officials used a bullhorn to order people to leave.
