Summary
A 1999 German magazine interview newly resurfaced shows Yoshiki Okamoto saying he threatened Nintendo after it rejected his plan to port the original Zelda to Game Boy Color.
Okamoto said he told Shigeru Miyamoto that if Nintendo would not approve the project, Capcom could release an identical game with different characters under another name.
The exchange appears to have been at least partly playful—surviving material is text-only—but Okamoto's push ultimately helped secure Nintendo's backing for a broader collaboration.
That partnership produced The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons, the two Capcom-developed Game Boy Color titles released in 2001.
