Scientists Tie JWST Little Red Dots to Redshift Bias, Not a New Galaxy Class

Archival Hubble and Webb data showed the lower-redshift spiral WISEA J123635.56+621424.2, nicknamed the Saguaro, matches the defining traits of a prototypical little red dot.
By synthetically shifting the Saguaro to higher redshift, researchers found its surrounding galaxy fades from view, leaving only a bright red central source that resembles an LRD.
That result suggests at least some little red dots are not a distinct galaxy population but ordinary systems whose outer structure disappears at great distance with current instruments.
The finding adds context to recent JWST work linking many LRDs to dust-shrouded, rapidly accreting black holes, while leaving room for multiple pathways behind the objects seen in the early universe.
