Chill Build Spent $6.2 Million on Boyle Heights Fire Response, Blames Lineage for Repairs

City records show Los Angeles inspectors met developer Gary Edwards on June 24 and later ordered Chill Build to remove fire-damaged portions, secure permits before rebuilding, and submit a remediation plan with weekly updates.
Three additional Cal/OSHA inspections tied to the fire are open, including one involving Chill Build, as lawsuits and overlapping roles among Lineage, Altus Power, Pearce Services and other contractors complicate fault.
The dispute matters as Lineage races to meet Mayor Karen Bass’ 45-day deadline to remove millions of pounds of spoiled food, while local leaders say residents still need direct answers from the property owner.
