Iranian Security Services Detain 2 French Diplomats, Abusing 1 in Immunity Breach

Summary
Two French embassy officials were held for several hours in Iran on Sunday, interrogated by security services and physically abused in one case before returning to the embassy.
Jean-Noël Barrot called it an "extremely serious act of intimidation" and a flagrant breach of diplomatic immunity, saying the pair oversaw French programs supporting Iranian civil society, artists and scientists.
The diplomats are now safe and due back in France within hours, while Barrot told Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi the "serious and unacceptable" incident would bring consequences.
The clash adds to already strained ties after Barrot said last week that European sanctions on Iran would stay unless Tehran abandoned its nuclear program and what Paris calls destabilizing regional activities.
