Summary
ZDNET’s in-car comparison found iOS 27 Siri AI decisively outperformed iOS 26 Siri on complex voice tasks, winning most of 10 tests while simple requests like calls, texts and calendar checks were roughly even.
Follow-up context drove the gap: Siri AI correctly used contacts for navigation, modified an active route to avoid tolls, matched restaurant reviews to on-screen results and answered location-based questions while driving.
Multi-step and generative tasks also favored the new system, which built and texted a lentil-soup shopping list, explained relativity from multiple sources, told a custom story and started a basic game or Italian lesson.
The beta still showed rough edges, sometimes interrupting multi-part prompts or timing out, but the tester said it was far less frustrating than current Siri in the car.
Apple plans to release Siri AI officially with iOS 27 in September; the public beta requires an Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone such as the 15 Pro, 16 or 17 models.
