The person at the center of the alleged takeover is Matthew Jackson, who signed a warranty deed on behalf of Save a Life Houses LLC, also described in related reporting as Save a Life Homes LLC. According to Harris County records cited in the reporting, a deed signed May 8 and filed May 21 purported to transfer Lee Gilley’s vacant Allston Street home to that company. When police responded to a trespassing complaint on June 17, a man at the property claimed he had a right to be there, and the matter was initially treated as a civil dispute. That changed after Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen said his office opened a criminal investigation. Investigators later removed newly installed surveillance cameras, paperwork and other potential evidence from the house and changed the locks. Rosen has said investigators are examining whether the claim on Gilley’s home is connected to similar attempts involving other vacant properties. Outside experts have cast doubt on the paperwork. Real estate attorney Dennis McQueen described the documents as “made-up” and said Save a Life LLC has surfaced in other disputed claims involving vacant homes. So, while Gilley fights extradition in Italy, the apparent effort to seize his Houston house is tied to Matthew Jackson and Save a Life Houses/Homes LLC. Authorities are still investigating, and no criminal charges have yet been announced in the property case.

July 20 court records show Turin judges temporarily halted Lee Gilley’s extradition to the U.S. and ordered Washington to clarify whether he could face the death penalty or life without parole.
An Aug. 31 deadline now governs the U.S. response, with another hearing set for early September after Gilley argued in court that he was seeking protection in Italy for himself and his children.
