Summary
Los Angeles County lifeguards and deputies took a felony warrant suspect into custody after he spent nearly 90 minutes in the Pacific off Will Rogers State Beach.
LAPD officers had tried to contact the man around 7:21 a.m. near Pacific Coast Highway and Sunset Boulevard, but he fled on foot past a lifeguard tower and into the water.
SkyFOX video showed three lifeguards restraining the suspect hundreds of yards offshore, guiding him to a sheriff's boat as he continued resisting before officers pulled him aboard.
KTLA and FOX 11 reported the man swam about 1 mile, at one point heading toward shore near Temescal Canyon before turning back into deeper water, prompting lifeguards to move in.
Authorities had not released his identity, condition, the underlying felony warrant or any additional charges by Friday.
