Not yet. The new Switch 2 Star Fox looks more like a test of the franchise’s commercial and creative viability than a confirmed bridge to an original sequel. The evidence cuts both ways. Nintendo has clearly invested more than in a routine port: 4K visuals, new cutscenes, full voice work, online multiplayer, co-op options, and a prologue centered on James McCloud suggest an effort to reintroduce and reframe Star Fox for a new audience. Some observers see that as a deliberate “reset” that could clean up continuity problems left by Star Fox Zero and create a foundation for future games. But Nintendo has not said this remake leads to a sequel, and the series’ history argues for caution. Star Fox 64 was already a retelling of the SNES original, then came Star Fox 64 3D, then Star Fox Zero, and now another remake of the same Lylat War story. That pattern has kept the canon largely frozen since Command in 2006. Critics and fans have repeatedly asked for a true follow-up, yet Nintendo has continued to return to the same plot. The strongest case for a sequel is business, not announcement. Nintendo has used remasters and remakes in other series before moving to new entries, and this release gives it a low-risk way to measure demand on Switch 2. If the game sells strongly and broadens the audience, it could improve the odds of a new sequel. For now, though, that remains speculation rather than a confirmed plan.

Nintendo has released its Switch 2 remake of 1997’s “Star Fox 64,” bringing Fox McCloud back after a 10-year break since 2016’s “Star Fox Zero.”
The remake leans on a major visual overhaul and expanded multiplayer, including two-player split ship control, a four-player battle mode and previously reported 4v4 online dogfights.
Fox’s renewed push follows his surprise cameo in “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” which the report says helped Nintendo capitalize on the character’s revived visibility.
The release also revives one of Nintendo’s older mascots: “Star Fox 64” was the ninth best-selling Nintendo 64 game and had previously been remade only once, for the 3DS in 2011.
