Google Confirms Pixel Watch Battery Drain Bug Across 4 Models, Promises Fix Soon

Q: Which specific Google system app is secretly draining your Pixel Watch battery, and why hasn't the company named it?

Google has not publicly identified the specific system app. Based on what the company has said, the drain is tied to a Pixel Watch system app distributed through the Play Store, not to the core Wear OS software, but there is no confirmed public evidence naming which app it is. That matters because some online speculation has pointed to components such as Google Health or newer Gemini-related features, but those remain guesses. The only verified detail is Google’s rollout method: the fix arrives through watch app updates, which strongly indicates the culprit sits at the app layer rather than in a full operating-system build. As for why Google has not named the app, the company has not offered an explanation. In practice, firms often avoid naming a buggy system component while a phased fix is still rolling out, especially if the issue affects only a small share of users and the root cause may be more complex than a single app label suggests. It also helps prevent confusion if multiple system packages are being updated together. For users, the practical answer is straightforward: open the Play Store on the Pixel Watch, go to Manage apps, tap Update all, then restart the watch. If no update appears yet, check again later, as Google said the fix is rolling out over the next couple of days.

Google said a battery drain bug is hitting Pixel Watch 2, 3, 4 and 5 devices, while the original Pixel Watch has not been widely cited in user reports.
User reports point to unusually rapid overnight losses, including one Pixel Watch 4 dropping from 100% to about 42% with sleep mode enabled.
Google told Android Authority it is working on a fix and said the issue affects only a small number of users, but it gave no release timeline beyond rolling it out as soon as possible.
The watch issue mirrors battery drain problems that have also affected Pixel phones this year, extending power-management concerns across Google's device lineup.
