Summary
PD 44 emerged as the Halloween episode’s standout bit, with Inde Navarrette playing a widow whose late husband leaves behind a cute robot that reveals its true purpose 6 years later.
Tom Oakland’s date with her turns grotesque when the machine transforms into a killer, rips off his penis, hurls it to the moon and then blasts him apart with a laser.
Navarrette’s deadpan delivery and full commitment drove the digital short, which was singled out as one of the stronger recent SNL pre-tapes despite a weaker cold open.
The sketch capped Navarrette’s SNL hosting debut, in an episode that also featured Gracie Abrams and Halloween cameos including Tom Hanks’ David S. Pumpkins.
