Summary
Cook County Judge ordered Alexandros Paporakis, 19, held without bond and to receive hormone injections and other treatment in jail after his arrest in an alleged Aurora temple shooting plot.
Police said a coworker’s tip stopped the attack after Paporakis allegedly drove to the Hindu temple with a modified rifle, body armor and about 300 rounds, then turned back when the gun malfunctioned.
Surveillance placed a red Acura registered to Paporakis at the temple at 12:25 p.m., and a later search of the Palatine home found a rifle, loaded magazine, hundreds of rounds and tactical gear.
Authorities said they also recovered an eight-page manifesto describing plans to kill Indian people and expressing neo-Nazi, white supremacist views targeting Jews, Black people and other non-white groups.
The temple said it has increased armed security, while Paporakis faces felony counts of making a terrorist threat and unlawful weapon possession and is due back in court on Oct. 30.
