Summary
Crystal Hefner posted an Instagram DM urging Jessica Biel to “please reconsider” joining Searchlight’s “Playmates” if the film romanticizes Hugh Hefner or Playboy.
Her message cited alleged sexual, emotional, financial and physical abuse during her 2012-2017 marriage, and pointed to other women’s allegations of rape, coercion, drugging, exploitation and concerns involving minors.
“Playmates,” written and directed by Lorraine Nicholson, follows 13-year-old Elle at the Playboy Mansion, where she befriends a Playmate hopeful; Bill Pullman plays Hugh Hefner and Biel’s role is described as fictional.
Crystal Hefner said she hopes the film avoids nostalgia and instead delivers a message of women finding fulfillment, independence and identity beyond Playboy.
