Summary
Windows 11 26H2 is now available for eligible PCs on versions 24H2 and 25H2, and installing it is required to keep receiving security updates after October 2027.
Rather than adding major new features, 26H2 turns on fixes and interface changes many machines missed under Microsoft's staggered rollout, including a movable taskbar and an option to remove Bing from Start menu search.
Microsoft says Windows Update may take weeks to offer the release automatically, though users can force it through Settings by enabling the latest updates option.
Snapdragon X2 devices on Windows 11 26H1 cannot move to 26H2 because they use a different Windows core, but Microsoft says they will get a path to a future release.
The update also removes the WMIC command-line utility after September's security changes, while recent 26H2 reports point to memory-use reductions of up to 2GB on some high-RAM systems.
