Summary
Jaxson Dart is now reportedly headed for season-ending knee surgery, pushing the Giants from monitoring his injury to actively deciding who will handle the quarterback job.
Jameis Winston remains the in-house option, but the team is also weighing free agents and trade targets because most unsigned quarterbacks available now are unlikely to be ready-made starters.
Jimmy Garoppolo was identified as the best free-agent fit, while trade possibilities include Derek Carr, Anthony Richardson, Joe Flacco, Sam Howell, Gardner Minshew and Mac Jones.
The Giants could also look lower on depth charts or practice squads for help, with names mentioned including Mason Rudolph, J.J. McCarthy, Shedeur Sanders, Will Levis and Joe Milton III.
The search follows Dart's injury in the 28-6 loss to the Rams, with Winston expected to start against Tennessee as New York tries to stabilize the position.
