A child's body was found at a pond near Brantham on Wednesday afternoon after three-year-old Noah Woods vanished from a playground at about 15:00 BST on Tuesday.
At least 1,300 people joined police, helicopters and dog units in a 24-hour search after Noah became separated from a relative near the River Stour on the Essex border.
About 100 bunches of flowers have been left at the playground, and more than £15,000 has been donated to a fundraiser for Noah's family.
Reverend Chris Willis said the community's response was a "thread of positivity" amid devastation, with volunteers arriving from as far as Birmingham and Hampshire.
Willis said Brantham, which was shaken by the 2024 murder of Anita Rose, would again pull together after the latest tragedy.
