JD Vance Hid Grim Iran War Assessments as Diesel Tops $6 a Gallon

The New York Times reported that JD Vance privately sought commanders’ views over the spring and summer and heard grave warnings about the Iran war, including severe munitions shortages.
Those briefings said stockpiles of key weapons such as Patriot interceptors were at their lowest ever, even as Vance and Donald Trump publicly insisted the conflict was effectively won.
Vance, 42, had argued against the war before it began but later defended it in public and last week said the six-month conflict was not a war and involved “no active shooting.”
The gap between private alarm and public messaging comes as the June memorandum of understanding collapsed after its 60-day window, strikes continued, and Iran said it seized a $2.5 million U.S. unmanned submarine.
The war’s widening costs are also hitting consumers, with GasBuddy saying the national average diesel price rose above $6 a gallon for the first time.
