Apple Launches $17.99 Device Leasing Program as iPhone Prices Climb to $1,999

Apple rolled out Apple Upgrade in the U.S., a new leasing program that lets customers get devices for as little as $17.99 a month and replaces its old ownership-based upgrade plan.
The launch comes as Apple raises iPhone prices: the new foldable iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, the iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199, the Pro Max at $1,299, and several older models are up $100 on higher chip costs.
Klarna facilitates the leases with a soft credit check; customers can choose 12- or 24-month terms for iPhones, make a residual payment to keep the device, upgrade again, or return it at the end.
Apple says leasing will not exceed the original list price, but early termination can trigger substantial fees, AppleCare is extra, and a carrier plan is required at checkout.
Financial advisers said the lower monthly payments may suit frequent upgraders, but warned that stacking small recurring charges can cost more than buying a device outright and keeping it longer.
