Chip Roy Says GOP Must Finish the Job Before Nov. 3 Midterms

Sept. 9 remarks from outgoing Texas Rep. Chip Roy framed Republicans as having “delivered significantly” but still needing a unified push before the Nov. 3 midterms.
Roy cited border enforcement as the clearest GOP achievement, saying Republicans had effectively shut down migrant flows, and also pointed to tax provisions in Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” and the Laken Riley Act.
Congress, he said, has still fallen short on parts of the agenda, with Republicans now at risk of barely holding the Senate and slightly losing the House unless they rally around a singular vision.
Only several House workdays remain before a long pre-election break, and Roy said Republicans should use the lame-duck session or January to pursue another reconciliation package and “finish the job.”
Roy also used the interview to reject reported childcare-subsidy changes for stay-at-home parents on philosophical grounds, while a White House official said no such proposal had been announced.
