Those two negotiations appear to be the league’s main rationale for extending the commissioner, whose current term now runs into March 2031.
The extension, previously described as a four-season pact, is Goodell’s fifth and further cements one of the longest commissioner tenures in major U.S. sports.
Earlier reporting said the contract is heavily performance-based, with more than 95% of compensation tied to metrics and total pay potentially reaching $300 million.
