Two men — Diego Sebastián “N” and Gerardo “N” — were taken into custody over the shooting deaths of musician Jonathan Meléndez, his pregnant wife, their 3-year-old daughter and the family’s 21-year-old nanny in Atizapán de Zaragoza.
Authorities said the four victims were found inside a residential building with an unharmed 6-year-old boy; two victims were bound, three had gunshot wounds to the head and the fourth was shot in the back.
Prosecutors believe the killings happened Sept. 1 between 5:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m., and said one suspect was an associate of Meléndez who allegedly used a trusted relationship to gain entry.
Camilo Séptimo confirmed the death of Meléndez, 38, a keyboardist and composer known as “Honas,” while Mexico’s security chief said coordinated authorities moved quickly and pledged to bring the suspects to justice.
Investigators have not publicly disclosed a motive, though earlier reports said robbery was a leading line of inquiry in the killings outside Mexico City.
