Summary
Macron used the opening of his two-day UK visit to join King Charles III and Prime Minister Andy Burnham at the British Museum before the Bayeux Tapestry goes on public display on Sept. 10.
The 70-meter embroidery is on a 10-month loan from France — the first time it has been on British soil since the 11th century — after being moved across the Channel in secret in July.
Charles called the loan an unprecedented symbol of trust, while Macron said Britain and France were "as close as the threads" in the artwork.
Burnham, in office for six weeks and meeting Macron in person for the first time, tied the exhibition to wider bilateral cooperation, including a drop in small-boat Channel crossings to a seven-year low.
