At 25, Tupac Shakur was killed in 1996 just as “All Eyez on Me” had cemented him as hip-hop’s biggest crossover star.
The double album — the first full-length solo rap double studio release — debuted at No. 1 and has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.
Shakur’s rise extended beyond music: after breaking out in 1992’s “Juice,” he appeared in seven films, with three released after his death.
That success came after a turbulent stretch that included a 1994 sexual-abuse conviction, prison time in 1995 and his move to Suge Knight’s Death Row Records.
A 1994 shooting at Quad Recording Studios and Shakur’s 1996 diss track “Hit ’Em Up” intensified the East Coast-West Coast feud that framed his killing.
