Newly unclassified Pentagon images dated Oct. 27, Oct. 29 and Dec. 4, 2025 show suspected drug-smuggling boats under U.S. surveillance as the department warned traffickers it will keep hunting and killing those threatening Americans.
67 strikes have been carried out under Operation Southern Spear since the first attack on Sept. 2, 2025, which the Pentagon says has disrupted trafficking networks, forced smugglers to adapt and removed "dangerous narcoterrorists."
An Aug. 25 strike in the Caribbean killed four alleged smugglers aboard a go-fast boat, following another recent strike in the Eastern Pacific that killed two people after a more than two-month gap in reported attacks.
The campaign has expanded under Trump, who calls the fight an armed conflict with Latin American cartels, while the administration seeks wider joint operations ashore with regional partners including Ecuador and potentially Colombia, Guatemala and Honduras.
