Summary
Alexander Zverev and Aryna Sabalenka were installed as the top seeds for the US Open singles draws released Thursday, ahead of play starting Aug. 30.
Current ATP and WTA rankings set the seedings, but absences and injuries elevated world No. 2 Zverev to the men's top line.
Five Americans landed in the top 10 across the two draws: Jessica Pegula at No. 3, Coco Gauff at No. 4, Ben Shelton at No. 8, Taylor Fritz at No. 9 and Amanda Anisimova at No. 10.
Potential quarterfinals include Zverev against Alex de Minaur, Shelton against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, Sabalenka against Linda Noskova and Gauff against Mirra Andreeva.
The year's final Grand Slam runs through Sept. 12 for the women's final and Sept. 13 for the men's championship, with Alcaraz opening against Roman Safiullin and Sabalenka against Camila Osorio.
