The catch is that Floccus does not integrate directly with most mobile browsers’ native bookmark databases. Its privacy promise is real in the sense that your bookmark data stays on storage you choose, not on Floccus-owned servers, and some backends can be encrypted. But on mobile, especially Android and iOS, browser sandboxing and platform restrictions prevent Floccus from reading and writing bookmarks inside many mobile browser apps the way it can on desktop through extensions. On Android, Floccus works as a separate bookmarks manager app rather than a true in-browser sync layer. It can display synced bookmarks and let you import or export them as an HTML file, but it cannot directly access the bookmarks stored in your mobile browser. That means the experience is not seamless: you may need to use the Floccus app itself or manually move bookmarks in and out. The same limitation explains why mobile support is described differently from desktop support. On desktop browsers that allow extensions, Floccus can sync the actual bookmark folders in place. On mobile, the app is more of a companion tool. So the hidden catch is not privacy-related at all; it is a technical platform limitation that keeps Floccus from directly syncing native bookmarks inside mobile browsers.

Floccus offers free bookmark syncing across Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, Vivaldi, Brave and Kiwi, with support for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android.
The tool works around native browser limits by storing bookmark files in user-controlled locations such as Google Drive, Dropbox, Nextcloud, Linkwarden, KaraKeep, Git services or a WebDAV-enabled NAS.
Google Drive and WebDAV setups can be password-encrypted, and synced bookmarks still appear through each browser’s normal menus and sidebars rather than a separate interface.
Setup requires installing the browser extension and usually creating 2 profiles—one for the bookmarks menu and one for the toolbar—because browsers label those folders differently.
Once configured, Floccus can sync on every change, at browser startup, or manually, making it a cross-browser alternative to each vendor’s built-in sync system.
