Its “Bluetooth calling” means the watch acts like a wrist speakerphone for the phone’s native dialer while the phone does the actual call handling. It does not run full messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Messenger or Telegram on the watch, and it does not have the deeper telecom integration needed to manage those VoIP calls. Supporting third-party app voice calls is more complicated than forwarding ordinary calls. Messaging apps use their own call frameworks, permissions and background services, and watch makers need software support both on the phone companion app and on the watch OS. More advanced platforms such as Wear OS or LTE-enabled watches are better equipped for that. Xiaomi’s tradeoff is clear: lower price, long battery life and simpler software, at the cost of app flexibility. For buyers, “Bluetooth calling” on the Redmi Watch 6 Lite should be read narrowly: you can answer and place regular phone calls from your wrist, but not voice calls from third-party messaging apps.
