Summary
A third drone was found west of Leipzig/Halle Airport on Aug. 14, 10 days after an explosives-laden drone was discovered near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo plane on the tarmac.
Around 50 grams of suspected hexogen were also recovered, while investigators traced other leads to Kursdorf, where they found a possible drone-control device—an antenna and electronic parts taped to a tree.
Emergency crews also found scorched ground and metal fragments nearby and are examining whether the site may have been used for a blast.
The Aug. 5 incident briefly halted airport operations, diverted several flights and was followed by a mid-air collision between one inbound aircraft and an unknown object before it landed safely elsewhere.
Leipzig/Halle is a key military and cargo hub for Germany, NATO allies and Antonov Airlines, and the case fits a wider rise in drone incursions over sensitive German sites that authorities often suspect are sabotage-linked.
