68% of respondents said Prince Harry and Meghan should pay for their own security, while only 2% backed taxpayer-funded protection in a new Mail on Sunday poll.
27% approved of the couple returning to Britain after six years overseas, versus 34% who disapproved, underscoring the difficulty of any move to rebuild support.
22% said their homecoming would weaken the monarchy and 8% said it would strengthen it; only 16% wanted them restored as working royals.
43% also said Harry and Meghan should apologize for implying members of the royal family were racist, compared with 26% who said no.
