The polarization also drops from 59% at 2–3 keV to 37% at 3–4 keV, a pattern the team says may reflect polarization mode conversion near a QED vacuum resonance.
The result is still short of a definitive detection; deeper IXPE observations and improved simulations are needed to confirm whether magnetars can serve as laboratories for a 90-year-old quantum prediction.
