South Korea Adds 292,000 Q1 Jobs as Youth Employment Falls for 14th Straight Quarter

South Korea's wage and salary jobs rose by 292,000 from a year earlier in the first quarter, lifting the total to 20.8 million and marking the biggest gain since Q1 2024.
127,000 of the increase came from health and social welfare, while accommodation and food services added 59,000 as more foreign visitors boosted hiring; professional services also gained 37,000.
76,000 jobs held by people in their 20s and younger disappeared, extending that age group's decline to 14 straight quarters, even as workers 60 and older gained 233,000 and those in their 30s added a record 115,000.
Construction shed 52,000 jobs for a 10th consecutive quarterly drop, while manufacturing was essentially flat with a loss of 1,000, showing the rebound remains uneven across sectors.
