Channel 14 aired Netanyahu saying Iran “tried to murder” one of his sons, though he gave no details on which son was targeted or when the alleged plot occurred.
The allegation surfaced as he argued prime ministerial candidates need round-the-clock protection, after reports an Israeli security agency had declined to provide a detail for rival Gadi Eisenkot.
July security measures had already been extended to Netanyahu’s wife and both sons, Yair and Avner; Yair, 35, has spent long periods in Miami, where his protection costs have drawn criticism.
Iran has vowed revenge since the US-Israeli strike on Tehran killed Ali Khamenei, four family members and his 14-month-old granddaughter, with successor Mojtaba Khamenei pledging to “avenge the blood.”
The claim lands as Netanyahu’s coalition trails in opinion polls ahead of Israel’s October general election after the war with Iran.
