Zohran Mamdani said Monday the Brooklyn Democratic Party's proposed rule changes would "circumnavigate the will of voters" after reformers won 22 district leader seats in June.
More than two dozen new voting members would be added to the executive committee that picks the party chair this fall, while current district leaders—still controlled by Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn's allies—are set to vote on the plan Tuesday.
Bichotte Hermelyn has defended the changes as expanding leadership and representation, but reformers say they would dilute gains by the slate backing longtime district leader Julio Peña for chair.
Letitia James and Jumaane Williams also urged the party to drop the overhaul, saying changing the committee's makeup on the eve of a leadership vote amounts to rewriting rules to keep power.
A separate proposal would let former chairs vote in future leadership races and, after this year's election, could expand the executive committee to about 90 members.
