Challenges Games and Comics reopened in Tucker on Aug. 15 after Northlake Mall tenants were told to vacate within 30 days following the property's sale to the Centurion Foundation and lease to Emory Healthcare.
About $9,000 in customer-raised GoFundMe support and help from roughly a dozen volunteers on the final mall day eased the move for owner Tony Cade, who said he had never faced such a tight relocation timeline in 30 years.
The new storefront gives the Atlanta-area gaming and comics shop a dedicated home for merchandise and community events, though Cade is still renovating and adapting a smaller space with higher rent than the mall location.
The move highlights broader pressure on independent brick-and-mortar retailers as rents rise and mall spaces disappear, even as tabletop gaming and comics stores keep relying on in-person community gatherings to compete.
