McMahon Vows Nationwide School Misconduct Crackdown, Citing 1 in 10 Students

Linda McMahon said the Education Department will intensify a nationwide crackdown on teachers, staff and other school adults accused of sexual misconduct, warning schools they could lose federal funding.
One in 10 eighth- through 11th-grade students reported educator sexual misconduct in a 2004 department review McMahon cited, while she accused some districts of reassigning accused teachers instead of removing them.
California regulators did not revoke licenses for at least 67 educators found by districts to have committed sexual misconduct from 2019 to 2025; at least 14 were later hired elsewhere and 12 were still in education as of May.
Los Angeles Unified is already under a Title IX investigation opened in May over an agreement the department says let credibly accused teachers be reassigned, though LAUSD and its union say those employees are kept away from students during investigations.
McMahon tied the misconduct push to a broader Trump administration education agenda that also targets more than $2 billion in alleged K-12 fraud and criticizes schools' academic performance.
