China Growth Slows to 4% in Early Q3, Reviving Easing Hopes

Goldman Sachs estimates China’s GDP was growing about 4% year on year at the start of the third quarter, slipping further below Beijing’s 4.5% to 5% annual target.
July activity data pointed to demand-driven weakness, Goldman chief China economist Hui Shan said, suggesting the slowdown is rooted more in soft spending and investment than supply constraints.
That marks a deceleration from 4.3% growth in the prior three months and has renewed expectations that Beijing may turn to monetary easing to support the economy.
