Chicago was eliminated from playoff contention Sunday when its loss to Indiana combined with a Mystics win closed off the eighth and final postseason berth.
A one-point halftime lead vanished in a fourth-quarter collapse as Caitlin Clark scored 34 points and Kelsey Mitchell added 28 for the Fever.
Natasha Cloud led the Sky with 16 points, Azura Stevens scored 14 and rookie Aicha Coulibaly added 12 on 5-for-5 shooting, but Chicago's second-half push came too late after its early-season hole.
Tension from the teams' previous meeting carried over: DiJonai Carrington and Clark exchanged words, and Cloud also had to be pulled away after yelling at courtside provocateur Enes Freedom.
Coach Tyler Marsh said the Sky still have "a lot to play for," framing the final stretch around player development and the franchise's future.
