In February, AFT pressed Minneapolis-based Target to publicly oppose Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in Minnesota; the union says the boycott follows Target’s refusal to take that stand.
A formal AFT resolution directs its 1.8 million members to shop elsewhere and aims to widen the effort to parents, local communities and the AFL-CIO’s roughly 15 million members.
The push also carries a financial tension: the Wall Street Journal opinion piece says AFT members own millions of Target shares even as union leaders call for consumers to avoid the chain.
