Summary
A joint roadmap now sets the next stages and timetable for DRC-AFC/M23 negotiations under the Doha framework after August 17-21 talks in Switzerland.
Ceasefire monitoring moved to the front of the process, with both sides adopting a standard method to report alleged violations and scheduling a first MCVE+ verification mission on Monday in Minembwe, South Kivu.
The parties also agreed to create a mechanism to track implementation problems and strengthen MCVE+ by setting up its secretariat ahead of field verification.
Washington welcomed the progress, while analysts cautioned the process remains early: only the first of 7 Doha protocols is partly covered, and renewed fighting still threatens the talks.
The roadmap follows months of stalled diplomacy and violence in eastern Congo, where implementation of the ceasefire and the remaining protocols will determine whether the latest push yields a broader peace deal.
