51 coordinated arson and incendiary attacks hit southern Thailand late Saturday, burning local government property and vehicles across Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani, with the wounded toll rising to three.
Three civilians — two women aged 45 and 46 and a 21-year-old man — were hurt in a roadside bombing in Narathiwat; all were hospitalized in stable condition.
Narathiwat imposed an overnight curfew, and Thailand’s railway operator suspended part of a local route after officials found track damage from what the military called a disruptive bombing incident.
Thai military officials said they had intelligence for about two months that attacks on local offices were likely, and said the assailants aimed to create unrest and erode public trust in the state.
The violence comes amid a separatist conflict that has killed more than 7,000 people since 2004, ahead of a cabinet visit to southern Thailand next week and stalled peace talks with BRN.
