The dispute stems from Ruffalo's attack on the $110.9 billion Warner Bros Discovery merger, which he says could cost thousands of jobs, curb competition and concentrate control of CNN, HBO and Warner Bros in one family.
Larry Ellison has personally backstopped $40.4 billion in equity financing for the deal, while Ruffalo has highlighted Oracle's long-running technology work for Israeli military and government agencies.
Paramount said Ruffalo invoked antisemitic tropes and that terms such as "genocide" and "apartheid" should not be applied to a corporate transaction; the Simon Wiesenthal Center backed that response.
The merger won U.S. Justice Department approval in June but remains paused in federal court over a 12-state antitrust challenge, with a failure to close by Sept. 30 potentially costing about $7 million a day.
