Q: Who is sending the chilling extortion texts and fake voice recordings from the missing woman's phone?

No one publicly knows yet who is sending the texts and voice recordings from Alisa Goods’ phone. What is known is that after Goods disappeared in Las Vegas on Aug. 8, her family began receiving messages from her phone on Aug. 12 asking for gas money, Cash App help and then Bitcoin. Relatives said the messages did not sound like her and contained details they found implausible, including claims about needing gas even though Goods does not drive. In one exchange, the sender did not react when a family member mentioned “Kelly,” a name the family says has no connection to them. Her son also received a call from a woman identifying herself as Alisa, but the family said the voice did not sound like her. Police have not identified a sender and have not said the messages prove Goods herself had the phone. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police told NBC News the calls and texts could be “spoofing,” meaning someone may be falsifying caller information or impersonating her rather than communicating from her actual location. That would fit the Bitcoin demand, a common hallmark of scam or extortion attempts. At this stage, the evidence points to an unknown impersonator or scammer, not a confirmed suspect. Investigators have said the case remains active, and the family has turned over the texts, calls and recordings to police. There has been no public confirmation that the sender is tied to Goods’ disappearance, only that the communications are suspicious and under review.

Las Vegas police said officers found Alisa Goods dead in a drainage ditch near Harry Reid International Airport just before 2 a.m. Thursday, after the 63-year-old New Yorker had been missing since Aug. 8.
Surveillance video from Aug. 8 showed Goods falling down an embankment, getting back up and then collapsing, with no further movement visible from the street, police said.
Goods had left a friend's apartment to take a bus to CVS and never returned; after she was reported missing on Aug. 10, her family received messages from her phone asking for bitcoin, help and gas money.
Her daughter said recent surgeries had made walking difficult, and the family worried extreme Las Vegas heat may have worsened her condition; the cause of death has not yet been released.
